2.MESSIAH.Isobel BAILLIE.Gladys Ripley. He shall augment his flock.COME UNTO HIM.SOPRANO.ALTO. 1946.
a.Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened.GLADYS RIPLEY.English contralto. b.He shall feed his flock.Gladys Ripley. c.Come unto him.ISOBEL BAILLIE.Scottish soprano. d.His yoke is easy.Chorus. HINT.Turn the volume up on your speakers slightly. Dame Isobel Baillie was for many years the quintessential 'English' oratario soprano.A bell like quality to her voice. At the time, she was supreme in the oratorio repertoire. Widely praised for the purity and clarity of her tone. This recording is with The Huddersfield Choral Society and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. The first of his Messiah recordings. Recording re-mastered very successfully by Dutton Laboratories,England, and issued on their label. In my opinion this Messiah performance, recorded, and first issued on shellac is sparkling, and vivid throughout, and better than the 1959 Sargent, already on my site. Dame Isobel NEVER sang without wearing a hat.Oratario or lieder. VENUE:-Huddersfield Town Hall.UK.1946. Isobel Baillie,1895-1984,soprano,born in Hawick,SCOTLAND. Age 52 at time of this recording. Her autobiography--'Never Sing Louder than Lovely'. Gladys Ripley.Well known on the 'Oratorio circuit'.Also in other works. MAIN PHOTO.Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting at the Promenade Concerts,Royal Albert Hall,London.
